All I can say, is you should have been there. The teaching segment covered a report on Jody Cameron's Steel Guitar School. The players were Bobby Bowman-D10 Emmons, James cross-D10 Emmons. Waymon moore -D10 ShoBud, Michael Phieffer- D10-GFI and Jody Sanders-D10 Pedalmaster. The featured act was Billy Mata and Texas Tradition with Roger Edgington on his D10 Zum. This is without a doubt the best western Swing band in the business. Billy mata and the band treated us to some great western swing and to some great country ballads. Billy Mata is a super vocalist. The Texas tradition Band :Richard Helsley-Fiddle, Jim
Cleckler-Bass, Chaney Rutherford- Guitar, Don MCrae-Drums, Roger Edgington-Steel Guiter, and Billy Mata-Vocals. This group is nominated for several awards from the Western Artist Awards including song of the year written by Roger Edgington. Thanks so much to Billy and the guys for a great afternoon of entertainment. The Jam was by the already mentioned players. Our band : Patty Phelps, Billy Phelps, Russ Rickman, and Gene Brogden on bass. Travis Cherry on Drums and Jim Saunders on guitar Vocalists: Gene Brogden and Jac Rickman. This was such an en joyable meeting, sure disliked for it to end. Was nice to have so many out of town guests especially my friend Joe Rouse. Once again thanks, to Billy Mata and The Texas Tradition Band for such a great performance. Thanks also to out SRO crowd. As always, Thanks to Billy and Patty Phelps for all they do to keep our club up and running. No meeting in Sept due to Scotty's Show. Next meeting, the first Sunday in Oct. GOD bless and we will see you down the road. Jody, Billy, and Patty. |

Jody is right---you shoulda been there. It was a real pleasure to see and hear all the players, but Billy Mata and The Texas Tradition were awesome. I don't know if they were in the area gigging or made a special trip to Katy from S.A., but regardless it was a great thing for them to come entertain us for about 2 hours. |

Wow this time does not stand for the Woodsmen of the World. I never thought I'd hear so much great music.
Billy Mata and the Texas Tradition were professional, personable, and put on a great show everyone enjoyed. Being a 63 year old rookie to the psg, I was awe struck. Brother Bobby Bowman, what a credit to the program, sounded like an entire band playing during the jam session. And of course my great friend and Brother Jody Sanders is an amazing pedal steel guitar player and a great emcee.
The only negative of the afternoon is I didn't bring enough cash for my wife and I both to buy the cds we wanted. I may leave her home in October(joke!). We drove back to San Antonio listening to Bobby Bowman and Billy Mata. Made some new friends and Brother Travis Cherry and Jac Rickman both are great, best Sunday afternoon we"ve had in a long time. |

A couple of relatives that had never been to a steel show attended with me. Watching their reactions was almost as entertaining as listening to Billy Mata and the Texas Tradition along with the players that have already been mentioned. We now have two middle aged converts that had grown up listening mostly to R&R. Without a doubt the best show I have attended. Thanks Jody, Billy and Patty for all the work you do to help provide this show. It was good to see Gene Sharp, an old friend of 50 years or so. Gene used to call me late at night to listen to cuts of albums that Pete Drake and other top session players in Nashville had just released. _________________ "Keepin' the steelin' going strong"

I do have to agree with my good buddy Jody Sanders about this show…….ya’ll should have been there! Billy Mata flat out sings and his band is top notch with out a doubt! It’s no wonder they are up for so many awards. Of course Roger did not disappoint any of us in the steel arena. Great playing Roger!
Once again it was a pleasure playing bass with Travis Cherry on drums. I had the pleasure of playing steel with him when he was house drummer at the Texas Opry in Magnolia.
Thanks to Billy, Patty, and Jody for their continued time and effort in putting on the monthly meetings, it’s appreciated for sure!
And speaking of Billy, if you have not picked up any of his rhythm tracks and CDs you are missing some great and innovative steel playing that you’ll not hear on any of today’s recordings.....what a player! If you’re looking for some new ideas do yourself a favor and pick up some of his material, you’ll not regret it for a second my friends. That’s some nice singing Billy…..too bad you can’t clone yourself into what, 5 to 6 players….ha! Contact www.fullcirclesound.com for a list of his material.
It was a pleasure to be there, Russ & Jac Rickmann |

What a great show!!! I got held up on I-10 and did not get there in time to participate in the jam but I got to see the real deal "Billy Mata and Band"!! For anyone who hasn't seen and heard these guys, you are missing out. Billy nailed all the songs especially "How much More Can She Stand". Thanks Billy M. for honoring my request. Thanks to the club for supporting this endeavor and especially for making it possible for us to get together. See some of you in St. Louis!!! |

We tend to overuse the words super and awesome, but let me say this program was both; super and awesome!
This band is a perfect blend of complimentary musicianship. Each player blends with the other nicely. And Billy Mata's vocals are awesome!
They were so unselfish to drive over 200 miles to be with us for a non-paying gig. |

The very best meeting I've been to in Katy. I've seen Billy Mata and The Texas Tradition before so I knew we were in for a real treat. I'm a big fan of AATW, but Billy and his band are right up there with them in showmanship and musical ability! If you missed this show, I feel sorry for you. |

Everyone has already covered most everything and I agree. I had a great time. I did get a surprise as I had never heard Travis Cherry before. I pick up his gospel cd and it is a excellant product. Lots of good stuff. Thanks to everyone. To all who could not make it you really did miss a great show. _________________ ShowPro SD10, Mullens RP, Bose S1 Pro, GK MB200, MB500, Bugera T50 Tube amp with SlidgeRig, TC HOF reverb effect. |
