Here is some interesting video footage for you George de Fretes fans. I would have liked the sound quality to be a little better, but I thought it was worth your seeing and hearing.

George plays a Rickenbacher frypan steel with his Hawaiian Ensemble.

He does some nice harmonics and does some of his unusual violin effects with the volume control. What is nice is that you can witness him doing it.

He is playing for an Indonesian culture night.

Enjoy.

Message from Peter den Hartogh:

Don, I do not think that this is George on the steel guitar.
It might be his brother Peter de Fretes or his other brother John de Fretes.
The video was a recording of the 37th Pasar Malam Besar meeting which indeed took place in 1995.

George passed away in 1981 in Los Angeles and has been buried next to his idol Sol Hoopii.

For your info:It is Peter deFretes who is playing the 6 string Rickenbacher frypan that used to belong to his brother George. On drums is their nephew Roy deFretes. George was my idol and mentor. Brother Johnny is also a very good steel guitar player who was part of the dance group Tiara Production here in Southern California for many years.
