I have a question about subs on the C6 neck. This would be for the CEGACE tuning. If the movement from the I to the V goes like this: G7 - Am7 - Bm7 - Bbm7b5 - D9, what would be good two and three note voicings to play with it? I'm playing in a band where the rhythm guitarist would be playing big full versions of these chords so I want to learn small voicings that will stand out over his chords. Thanks for your help.

There are lots of ways to harmonize this. Here's just one .... it keeps the voice leading on the top string. The 3-fret slant Em chord is a sub for G9th. You can pull the 2nd string 1/2 step for the Bm7b5 or just play 2 notes.

Tab:

        G9         Am        Bm        Bm7b5  OR pull 2nd string         D9

E   ----12---------12---------14--------13--------13---------------------12--------|

C   ----11---------12----------14-----------------14---------------------12---------|

A    ---10---------12---------14--------14--------14-------------------------------|

G   ---------------------------------------------------------------------11--------|

E   -------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

C   --------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

Or you can use those patented Jerry Byrd reverse-to-forward slants ...

Tab:

        G7         Am        Bm        Bm7b5         D9

E   ----7-----------8-----------10--------10---------12---------|

C   --------------------------------------------------12---------|

A    ---8-----------7------------9---------11---------------------|

G   -----------------------------------------------------------------|

E   -----------------------------------------------------------------|

C   -----------------------------------------------------------------|
