Like the Mafia had nuttin' to do with the music business before dees yahoos come along...
You're right about madhouse, though... I think it's hilarious that B&R's trucks have a huge Prilosec endorsement painted on the side... ya need a good dose of that to get through listenin' to that... uh... "stuff." _________________ Mikey D... H.S.P.

Big & Rich were on the Tonight Show last night. I heard a little steel guitar but didn't see any dwarfs or midgets. |

I'll tell you what, several years ago, I wouldn't have given you a nickel for a Big & Rich CD. Between the dwarf, and Cowboy Troy, and all the other circus act stuff.
I guess it was the 2005 edition of some awards show, maybe the CMA's, my wife and I were watching.
Bear in mind that I never listen to mainstream "today's hot country" radio stations, so a lot of the songs that many of the folks around here have made fun of, thankfully, I've never even heard.
But we're watching this show, and Kris Kristofferson comes out and gives the spoken word introduction for the Big & Rich song, "Eighth of November," and I had never heard the song or even heard of it.
So Big & Rich performed the song, and by the end of the thing, my wife and I are both sitting there with tears streaming down our cheeks.
It flat blew me away, and I had no idea that these guys were capable of that kind of depth.
I'm still not going to go see them in concert, but ever since that evening, they're OK with me.
I'm sure the majority of you have seen it, but if you haven't - click on the link below and it will take you to the original video which is on You Tube.

I'd rather Big and Rich than a lot of that other new country junk. I think they have energy and a stage presence that's lacking in some of the spaced-out, prescription drugged-out, botoxed solo singers we're seeing on these award shows. Every time I've seen them, they've been performing a catchy number. _________________ Jackson Steel Guitars

Big and Rich are flat out whats wrong with CMT country. They are NOT country. They are a rock band masquerading as country.

Well the gig went pretty smooth last night in spite of one of our guitarists being out of town. The rest of us picked up the slack and delivered a good show. Dave Ristrim was playing steel and guitar for the Musik Mafia and he sounded pretty fine on his Carter 12 string. The Musik Mafia is not really a rock band posing as a country band - it's more of an old fashioned review where there's a backing band and a bunch of different artists are featured for a few tunes each. John and Kenny actually hate mainstream Nashville CMT stuff and the marketing mindset that goes with it as much as a lot of folks on this forum. It's just that they do like a lot of completely different kinds of music and their show is just a statement that contrary to the current trend of narrow concert, radio and record formats - on the same show you can have country, hard rock, funk, rap, gospel, blues,R&B,spoken word and audiences will accept it. They even have a very talented artist named Rachel Kice on one side of the stage creating a large abstract painting in real time during the course of the evening.I didn't absolutely love everything I heard but there was a lot of talent on that stage. The show was well paced, well performed, very entertaining and the crowd loved it. It reminded me of the old reviews I saw in the 60s like Ike & Tina,James Brown,Johnny Otis and Mad Dogs & Englishmen. For those who think there's only 2 kinds of music - "country" and "western" I'd say go see my buddy Dale Watson. |

I Agree. AND they are Not even a good rock band.

So is Britney Spears. So is Ashlee Simpson, the lip sync queen. They sell a lot of records too... does that mean they are Good musicians making Quality music? OR does that mean they are just successful at spoonfeeding crap to the public?
Record Sales do Not indicate Quality. They indicate popularity.
Often there is a reverse correlation: the bigger the record sales, the more trite, shallow, and unoriginal the music is.
Although I have never seen B&R, and I do not listen to Top-40 Country, I did hear this band (or duo, or whatever they are) one time. Last year while riding to a gig with a fellow musician I was tortured for an hour... he played a B&R CD all the way to the gig, and I heard all I need to hear. They sound like an overproduced '80s hair band. In 10 years this stuff will be long forgotten, along with Ashlee Simpson. _________________ My Site / My YouTube Channel

The new Big & Rich song "Lost In The Moment" is pretty good, would make a great wedding song. I also gave them more respect after: "Eighth of November" |
