Steel guitar hits a new dimension with a custom lap version built exactly to Stratocaster dimensions, cavities and wiring but with specially designed 8 pole pick-ups by Jason Lollar, specially raised to maintain the same separation from the strings as a normal Strat. This design was originated and completed by Bob Littleton of West Coast Steel Guitar with some (minor) help from me. I am told by Bob that it sounds much like a Stratocaster. Do not look for the whammy bar. Us steelers have one inbuilt in our left arms!
I shall be bringing it to Joliet, stopping by on the west coast en route from Singapore to pick it up. You may view it, courtesy of Gerald Ross, at:

Very interesting, and a cool guitar - congrats!.
My experience with my "Lapstrat" is that the upper cutaway has a tendency to get in the way when I play up the neck, but other than that I really like the concept.
In my case, that's a Fernandes strat body, Loni Specter "Redneck" and Hipshot Trilogy bridge (I kinda regret the bridge, don't change tunings as much as I thought I would...).

Hot dog! Been hoping to see a picture of the guitar here. The Candy Apple red is choice.
Recent talk of the new Fender lap had me thinking that this is the route they ought to go. The Kay Das signature model.
I had meant to write about the new tune you had posted. It's great. The job your son did was stellar.

I have a Johnson strat that I play slide ( G tuning) on and I love it. I also have a Syn-sonic short scale(E tuning) that I got for $2 bucks and I put a Carvin pick up in it and it's not too bad.

nice to hear from other "straters". does anyone play or figured a way to play standing up with a strap? i have a feeling in my bones that steel guitar could become more interesting to more people if played standing and moving, like a normal guitar.

I tried to use a dobro strap on my LapStrat, but the body isn't deep enough so it didn't balance well. Might be a little easier with a Tele body since it isn't contoured, but I think that would be pretty hard to balance too.
Perhaps it has something to do with my, eh, 'anatomics', but I even have a hard time balancing my weissenborn....
