I bid on this on a whim, not really expecting to win the auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/magnatone-lap-steel-and-amp-mots-set_W0QQitemZ7352799070QQcategoryZ2384QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Does anyone use this steel and/or amp? I figure someone will take if I don't like it, but what do you all think? My first steel was a Dickerson that looked a lot like this, but I don't remember the chrome control panel or Stratocaster style pickup.....maybe this is a later model?

Cheers!
Cliff

Congrats! Not knowing much about these, but it seems like they are in great shape, and very cool to look at. Nice pick up.

$300 for the pair (after shipping) I think is excellent, especially for the amp. Good job!

Cliff, you did just fine. Congratulations!

This is one of the later era Magnatone lap steels, and should be a very nice sounding instrument. This set is very similar to my first lap steel and amplifier, except mine were bowling ball blue rather than gray (and only cost $75 in 1972).

Cliff,
For $262, that was a good deal, especially if everything is working right.

I love the sound of my Magnatone Lyric.

Aloha,
Don

You got an excellent deal ! You mentioned DICKERSON which eventually became MAGNATONE.
During the latter years of Hawai'i Calls, MAGNATONE gave guys like Jules Ah See, Alvin "Barney" Isaacs and others their double necked MAGNATONES which were advertised world wide whenever Webley Edwards mentioned "Waves and Magnatone Steel Guitars"...(or simi). Great publicity.

I once owned a 4 neck Magnatone, but the buggah weighed a ton so I sold it. Now I wish I had kept it as it had a great sound.

Excellent! I'm really looking forward to its arrival. If it sounds as cool as it looks I'l be a happy picker. I've been wanting a small tube amp for recording, so this is a double treat for me.
I'll let you know how they sound.

Cheers--
Cliff

Cliff,

Give us a little sample of the sound of your Magnatone & Amp on SGF, if you can.

Aloha,
Don
