Do any one out there have a good source for cases and gig bags for lap steels. Levy was making a CM21 bag that fit most instruments under 30 inches, but it is now discontinued.
I have need for about 15 cases or bags.

The current Gretsch gig bags work well for asymetrical shapes like some of the old Gibsons had. Hohner either makes or used to make a perfectly fitting gig bag for the rickenbacker bakelite, and presumeably the metal bodied equivalents. Bakelites do fit into a baritone ukelele case. That might be worth investigating.

Ritter makes excellent gigbabags for headless electric guitars. These bags fit perfect most lap steel guitars. I use one for my Georgeboards and my Fender Deluxe (without the legs). The product code is RCG700-HE and it is $ 51.90 .Look at www.ritter-bags.com

You might look at some of the hard cases for rifles and pistols. I know a few musicians who carry instruments around in them. Nice looking and some are affordably priced.
Might raise a few eyebrows when you walk into a gig with a case with "Smith and Wesson" on the side!!!

TKL makes a lap steel gig bag -- I got one with my Melobar lap steel several years ago. Check their site for model 4629. Not heavily padded, but adequate for short trips. Retails for $35. (Disclaimer: I have no affiliation w/TKL). www.tkl.com

"breakdown shotgun" cases are nice foam-lined and reasonably priced rectangular hardshell protection.

I just bought 5 of these Elite gig bags ... to haul my cast steels to Joliet.

$19.99 ... 1" padding ...real nice.

I bought the bass guitar ones and my "Boobpan" (Double neck pan) ... almost fits too ... just one "head" stickin' out.

They are sure good enough to use in the truck ride up ... and to bring them back and forth from my room to the vendor area.

I got one of each color ... they just came today ... they are pretty nice ...

Most of y'all would think they are too big ... but 3 I'm bringin' are 25.5" scales ... so they are great for what I needed ... the "tweed" looks .
