Just wanted to let everyone know the long-anticipated PocketPOD is now available. And, I already have a bracket to go with the unit using the heavy-duty C-clamp I use for the big brother POD XT.
Some of the cool things about the new PocketPOD is:
1) It is based on the POD 2.0 and has all the amp & cabinet models available for that model (including reverbs, delays, chorus, Leslie (organ effect), etc.)
2) It is battery powered (by 4 AAA batteries) or can use a standard power adapter for AC operation
3) It has an integrated tuner (similar to a Boss or Korg electronic tuner)
4) It is a headphone amplifier for solo practice
5) And, finally, it has an input for CD/MP3 player to use when practicing with your very own tracks (This feature alone should sell a bunch of these puppies!)
I've had my unit for over a week now and am having a great time coming up with several presets for the new model. Is it as good as an XT?........No. It doesn't have the variety of sounds, effects, amps, cabs, and it is not intended to be used as a stand-alone preamp. But it is about half the cost and has some great potential. (All of the above are just my early opinions. Time will tell.)
Here are a few pics to gander at......
Here's a pic of the new baby with his big brother...

Never mind Tommy, I just found one on American Musical. Not a bad price if the amp models and effects sound as good as the ones on the 2.0 How much are the brackets for the pocket pod Tommy?

I was looking at this unit on the Line 6 site and got interested until I looked at the effects list and phase was not listed. All the programs listed are useless for steel. |

Tommy, what if we don't have a pocket ?
Actually I believe the effects are in line with most modern Processors. All can be edited to suit...
here is the list:
Pocket POD Effects:
Compressor Delay/Compressor
Tremolo Delay/Tremolo
Chorus 1 Delay/Chorus 1
Chorus 2 Delay/Chorus 2
Flanger 1 Delay/Flanger1
Flanger 2 Delay/Flanger2
Rotary Speaker
Delay/Swell
Delay
Reverb
Compressor, Delays, Reverbs, Chorus..
actually the one missing is Overdrive...
Nice little unit, I still don;t understand why they shaped it like a Kidney !

Jack, I agree that the "factory" presets that ship with the PocketPOD is not very useable for those of us in the steel guitar world. But, with just a little time, patience, and effort I've been able to develop some setups that I would be glad to use on any stage.
Tony, the distortion stomp boxes are not there but you can still get some killer distortion using some of the amp/speaker combos that are typically used for that form of sound. (Think overdrive rather than digital distortion. Some believe it's a purer sound of distortion anyway.) And Jack is correct there is no phaser. But, the chorus effect is very "effective" and for me it can be substituted in almost every place I would normally use a phaser sound from my POD XT. |

I agree---I really like some of the overdriven amp models on my Pod 2 and I find them more musical than some stomp box OD or distortion sounds. I've just gotten an XT and I'm still working on finding my way around with it (I'm getting there). As portable as either full sized kidney is, I'm not sure what the value of this pocket unit is to someone who already has the old one. And $70 more than the pocket kidney gets you a 2.0 with increased versatility.
I'm impressed by what they've achieved but I'm not sure what niche it fills. |

I need the phase when I work with Tommy Cash (and I have 22 dates in Feb 08 with Tommy). I do the horn part on "Ring of Fire" and use the phase for that. |

Early this morning, I wrote a separate and more detailed thread on changes to the Pod 2 - http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=112873
I've been using an older Pod 2 for at least 6 years and I agree that they can be tweaked to sound just fine. But as you can read, I'm not very happy with the new version. Especially listen to the spring reverb, which I tried to tweak in deep-edit mode to no avail - it sounds nothing like an old Fender reverb to my ears. Perhaps I got a bad one, I'd be interested in hearing other input. This is relevant to me, since this Pocket Pod is supposedly based on the new Pod 2. I do like the idea of a very portable battery-powered Pod, but for me, the good basic tones would have to be there. |

I must have missed this when it came out.
THIS one would equitbly fit on a leg without looking out of place or wiggling.
I just bought one a couple hours ago when looking for an "earphone amp" for a trip to Wyoming.
Looks MUCH better for portable guitar/amp gigs, and If it proves up I'll use it for this weekend for both steel and guitar.
I'm trying to download the editing software, but failed once. We'll see how it goes.

So far it's one of those RTFM things.
Everything seems up to par, and some effects seem to be stereo in the earplugs.
Probably it's 16 bit like the 2.0, but my ears aren't that sensitive.
The Reverb is a bit limited, as is the compressor, but I don't see why it wouldn't make a good front end processor.
I intend to use it that way for some gigs as soon as I get a chance.
VERY cool for just going around the house, in the car, and I imagine for "sitting in" where you could just hand them a cord and ask for a clean channel. They wouldn't need to see it clipped on your belt.
I don't see why you couldn't do like the other Pods and set up 4 or so channels with different things.
Can't think of a better deal.
Also like I said, it'd be a better "fit" for the leg of a PSG.
The mini USB interface lets you set quite a few parameters, and it works pretty good.
I'd like to see one with Podxt guts.

Yes, Tommy is right, amp modeling and preamp gains really offer a very cool variety of "overdrive" patches, and Chorus can be used in most every Phaser situation. Nice unit.
As Tommy states, this unit is geared toward GUITAR players so editing is in order. As with each of the Multi Effects units we come across, as long as the "string patches" are present and can be edited, these units can be made VERY Steel Guitar friendly. |

OK, One set of batteries. Non alkaline, about three hours. No problem.
I found that several of the effects are stereo in the earphones, as is the hall reverb.
Models etc will take a little tweaking, but Most are comparable to the xt models.
Compressor is not quite up to the xts.
What I like best so far is the mp3 "play along". With a decent set of in ear phones you can get LOUD. GREAT for practicing.
Like the xt, it needs patience and constant "Saving" to get it right.
Separate banks for Tele, Steel, and different amps. Maybe not as easy to kick through as my xt Live, but hey..
The Choruses are more like flangers, and the flangers are pretty lame. Probably settable to work as a phaser. Tremolo is good. Delays seem to be stereo, and the main 324ms 30%mix one is the same as I use on the xt.
Rotary speaker is stereo, and the speeds are settable besides one fast and ons slow. I have hope that they could be toggled on the fly, but I dunno.
The main editing, I am taking it that I have to do plugged in to the puter, but maybe I'm missing something. Maybe I'll even Read The Manual...
Just had a big dental double rear molar demolition/removal, but this little thing is going to go with me for the weekend to Jackson Hole, and on the long drive, plugging my tele into it and having a stash of batteries is going to hopefully keep me from hearing 12 hours of life stories that I've heard before..
That and some vikes that I rarely take any more.
More as I get into it.
It would be nice to have the Amp Out in TRS Stereo, but hey.. At least the Line Out/Earphone jack is. I'm thinking that it could be adapted to 2 1/4" jacks.

Well after a couple "away" gigs, this little Pocket Pod is the best thing I've found, probably EVER.
Just for grins I used the battery function until it went dead, while travelling and playing the tele. 4 hours on regular alkalines. No fading, it just stops. In ear plugs get as loud as you'd want them.
I'm either going to wait for MF to reorganize their shipping dept on 9 aug and get a PW adapter, or see what Radio Shack has for a 1/8 stereo to 2 1/4" mono female adapters, but when I do, it'll have dual amp capabilities for some of the stereo things like delay, rotary, and chorus.
No problem saving things on the fly to frequently used channels, and tap editing the delays.
Can't wait til they get rid of all the 2.0 guts and figger out how to cram the xt guts into a package this small.
More as it develops.
For 129 bucks you couldn't find a delay or a compressor this handy. Nor any better quality wise. Let alone the other effects.
