I'm taking a family vacation next week 7/22 to 7/28, leaving from Rhode Island to go camping with my brother-in-law and his family from Ohio at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Woodridge, NY (we're meeting about halfway). I've been playing guitar forever but am fairly new to lap and pedal steel, didn't know if there were any good music stores to check out or any good shows to attend while I'm out there. Thanks for any replies in advance.

Hello, In Middletown, NY (on Rt. 17) there is Alto Music. They don't have steel guitars in stock, but they have lots of acoustic, electric, amps, basses, etc. It is one of the biggest independent stores in our area of NY State.
My store is in Walton, NY, farther west on 17, get off at East Branch, follow rt. 30 to Downsville, then 206 to Walton. (The normal exit for Walton is Roscoe, but there is a piece of 206 washed away in a recent flood, so you have to go to East Branch instead). I am open one more week before my vacation. I will leave on July 29 and be gone for two weeks. I have two steels at my shop, neither is for sale... We have lots of acoustic guitars, electric guitars, accessories, etc. I am always ready to talk steel guitar, and jam for awhile, if I do not have a lesson scheduled... www.waltonmusichouse.com is my web site.
