My father , as a present/something to remember home by when I came over here to Europe and 5 years ago..Gave me a 1973 Dorado resonator guitar. It is pretty much just like in this picture.

It is in pretty good shape, and has aged well, but It certainly needs an overhaul, as I intend to quit just lookin at it and start playing it..I was wondering who here is qualified to do that sort of thing??I need the utmost care given to it..it has a LOT of sentimental value, as well as being my only resonator....Please help..

Teddy

Hi Teddy,
From what I've read in the Lutherie Journals here in the states, all trades in Germany have to pass a exam before they can set up a business-Luthiers included. I happen to think that's a great idea. Since you had mentioned she's in pretty good shape, I'm betting you have some really excellent craftsmen there who would be more than qualified. Have you checked out anyone over there?

I havent checked over here, and to be quite honest have no desire to do so. Everything is ridiculously expensive here. I had a couple of bad experiences with guitar repair here when i first got here, and that left a bad taste in my mouth. Id rather deal with the US folks.

Pete Woodman and Dave King are in the UK and both would be excellent choices.
It's possible Lebeda would do repair/refresh work.
All of these guys can be found in a Google search.

Good luck!

What sort of work do you think it's going to need? You could easily upgrade the cone, bridge inserts, etc. yourself if you take it slow and easy. Paul Beard sells a video on this very topic, but I don't know if it's available in PAL format.
I owned one of these myself as my first acoustic resonator guitar.
