I work in a music store (Corson's Guitar Store in Urbana Illinois) and a customer brought in a square neck guitar to get it worked on. It looks like a regular small bodied acoustic guitar but it has a square neck (round hole, no resonator). It says "Mckinney" on the headstock, but there is no other info to be found on or in the guitar. I assume that these were considered accoustic lap steels and were used for Hawaiian music in they're hayday. Has anyone seen this brand before and could someone tell me what it might be worth? It's a well built instrument in pretty good shape. I tuned it to a dobro tuning but I would bet that these types of guitars were tuned to the popular lap steel tunings of the day. Did any of the famous lap steel players of yesterday ever record with an instrument like this? I have seen similar guitars before, but seeing this one has gotten' me interested in the history of these instruments.Any info about acoustic squarenecks would be greatly appreciated.[This message was edited by Bob Watson on 31 August 2005 at 01:20 PM.]
