I was having a lazy June day at work when the phone rang and as I prepared for my everyday sales pitch to a customer I was surprised to hear Ronnie's voice say " Bob we are heading to Nova Scotia next week". All thoughts of work went out the window and all I could think about was real Country music is on it's way and things like Steel Guitar, MIDI Steel etc.
What a great time I had during Ronnie's visit. I Went out for a meal with Ronnie on Monday evening with my good friend Bob McDonald. Then Ronnie provided a Meet and Greet for a group of members from our Steel Guitar Club (The Atlantic Steel Guitar Club OF Canada) and he took time to answer all of their questions. Both He and the show promoter graciously provided free tickets to everyone there from the Steel Club (including my two guests) for the Charlie Pride concert the following evening, including VIP passes to meet Charlie and take pictures
The concert was awesome. The sound levels and the steel mix were great (greatly improved since I saw them about two years ago) Not only did Ronnie play plenty of really great licks on his sweet sounding GFI Pedal Steel Guitar, he also played various MIDI steel parts (a few are listed below) and he participated in the 5 part harmonies as well.
At 69 Charlie is still at the top of his game and although most of the audience would love to hear more of his original tunes, we enjoyed everything he did.(I know I sure did) We were also entertained with really beautiful sounding acoustic guitar and some of the nicest drums I have ever heard live. All in all it was a super time and you couldn't ask for any better.
A few of the songs Ronnie played MIDI Steel on were:
My Jamaica - Vibes, Marimbas
You'll Have to go - - Vibes
Mountain of Love - Hi Bells
Medley of Dead Guys - Marty Robins -Woman My Woman - Vibes
For the Good Times - Vibes and Hi Bells
Ring Of Fire - Johnny Cash - Trumpets
