Has anyone changed a tone pot on one of these steels? I tried replacing the tone pot with a new 250k pot and got no signal. Put the original pot back in and it worked, but it is scratchy and intermittent (which was the reason for changing it in the first place). The original is marked 220-2 and 304033. Any help would be much appreciated.

Gerard,
The "304" identifies the pot as made by Stackpole.

"033" says that it was made in the 33rd week of either 1940 or 1950.

Don't know why your replacement didn't work.
You must have gotten one "bad-out-of-the-box."
