I don't have a distortion pedal. After reading part of another post on distortion I was thinking. If I turn up my NV1000 pre gain ALL THE WAY UP, and turn the 2nd stage way down, will I get a distortion sound? If so, will it harm the amp in any way? Should I just use an FX processor if I want distortion? _________________ Gary Shepherd

I don't know about the damage part, but I do know that tubey distortion has a lot of character, I don't know that i could say the same about transistor distortion. |

I would also have to recommend against using the 1000's gain to get a good overdrive sound. You may be able to get it dirty, but it's probably not what you're looking for. I think that preamp is mainly geared for clean gain.

A stomp box works soooo much better. Juggling amp gains to get occasional overdrive turns out to be a hassle, as every time you want a clean sound, you have to re-adjust things. With a stomp-box, all you have to do is step on the switch. |
