I've read elsewhere that the young (16 year old) multi-instrumentalist Hawaiian music sensation Brittni Pavia has recently taken up study of the steel guitar. On her debut album (Na Hoku Hanohano award, best new artist) she plays slack key, ukulele and bass, all beautifully. I'm excited by the prospect of her and other young musicians taking up the Hawaiian steel, or including it in their recordings (like Raiatea Helm). It bodes well for the future of Steel guitar. Anyone else out there?

Scott,
Kapena DeLima, son of Kelly DeLima from the group Kapena plays steel guitar on their gigs at the Moana Hotel in Waikiki. He was one of the last students of Jerry Byrd but his lessons were cut short when Jerry fell sick.

Steve Cheney who was the guest steel player for this years Aloha International at Winchester, Indiana has his sons playing too. They perform at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Laie, Oahu.

I understand that Keith Haugen has supplied Brittni Paiva with a bakelite 6 Ric which he wasn't using and I am sure that, with her exceptional talent, it won't be too long before we hear some mighty interesting steel work from this young lady.
