Does anyone know what tuning this is in? It's from David Lindley's "Very Greasy" and also on one of his live duo CD's. |

D shape tuning (low to high: 151351), but I don't recall whether he plays it in D or E (probably D).

On the "David Lindley & Hani Nasser Official Bootleg I, Live in Tokyo-Playing Real Good" CD he strums a couple of time while introducing the song.
He plays the song in F and to me it sounds like an F6 tuning. He has the low 6th string tuned to an F(he keeps a bass drone with it) and I remember hearing a D on the top end, I think the first string is a D. I just haven't heard it in a while so I don't remember what the other stings were.
I need to listen to it again, but I think it's, Low to high- F C F A C D |

Ah, that old chestnut. That was the first song by David Lindley I ever figured out. (I have since figured out most of his other songs too).
It's in F Major, both on "Very Greasy" and "Playing Real Good".
F Major, low to high is FCFACF.
Like Travis said, it's a 151351 shape.
For almost all of David Lindley's Weissenborn songs, the tuning matches the key of the song.

So it's E major tuned a half step up. I can do that. [This message was edited by Paul Honeycutt on 22 July 2005 at 08:57 PM.] |
