Hi!

I'm currently in open D, using those Newtone "Aloha" strings. ( 15,17,26,36,46,56 )

What string gauges would you recommend for Open G on a "Weissenborn-style" guitar? ( 25" scale )

Also what about low-bass G?
Thanks!

Chris.

Hi Chris,

I think the Newtone Alohas are pretty much designed for low bass G. I use Alohas for D, D minor, G and G minor (both low bass), but I substitute the .017 second string with a .018, as I found that the feel of the first and second string were not "matching" well in D tuning (the second string felt too slack in comparison to the first IMO).

As for "dobro" tuning, when I tried out that tuning, I used .015 .017 .026 .036 .041 .046 if I remember correctly.

Hope that helps!

Fred

My Teardrop weiss is tuned to "dobro-G" at the moment, and I use 015 to 050 for that (a bit on the heavy side, but it's what I had available). All you need to do is to use the fifth string for your sixth and find a string somewhere around 040-044 for the fifth string.
