If you own a Tele with a 3-piece bridge and one of my RedNeck lap steel conversion necks (or not) I thought this replacement bridge would make sense.
Sometimes simple is best! I put one on Greg Leisz's Tele and it sounds great!

Let's see....... "Lapdancer", "Redneck", "BigAss",- what's next Loni?

Cool idea though, if my own Redneck had been on a Tele I would have gotten one of those...

Loni,

If that bridge is round on the bottom; I think a small strip of nickel, brass or bronze, (medium soft/hard metal) about the thickness of a penny, placed under the width of the bridge, will improve the tone via more seating contact between the plate and bridge; Akin to the old Roy Buchanan trick of a penny under the 1st string saddle height screws (and sometimes 2nd string too depending on string gauge / down-pressure).

Anyone making a tele-steel now knows where to get the best bridge for it (that I've seen anyway)!

Aloha,
DT~

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the kind words!
Denny, I'm not so sure you want any more transference of string vibes to the body. I like the idea of isolating the strings from the body's and neck's influence. Did you read what Roy Ayers said in the other post on "Toilet Seat steels"?

The best sounding Tele I ever built was a 'top loader' from left over parts that sounded bad in their previous incarnations. I think the stiffnes of the guitar is key to sustain.
Aloha compadres.

Thanks Loni. Yes, I read Roy's very good brief about SUSTAIN; And rigidity of a body does indeed afford more sustain. But sustain is only 1 part of a number of other factors that produce the different sounds (particularly tones) of a wide assortment of electric guitars, ...whether it be spanish or steel guitar. Inherent guitar body tone is as important to many Players as reasonable sustain; tone coming from that elusive combination of many elements (not just sustain) that guitar builders and pickers have tried to balance and maximize for 70 years since aluminum / rigid steels upped the sustain ante.

But of course a Picker wouldn't know whether isolating the strings from the body of a particular geetar would sound better than having them communicate, unless he tried both; Although he could make a good guess / projection via the objective / formula he is building from.

Aloha,
DT~

It seems the penny suggestion is hinting as increasing the downbearing (angle) of the strings. Good downbearing helps.

It looks like Jerry Douglas is a potential customer, Loni.

His web site says he has a "Fender tele lap steel" -- does he already have a RedNeck?

It's possible. I have a guitar tech client who has purchased several necks from me for custom projects. He never tells me what he does with them or who they are for. I have made a few with the Tele shaped headstock, and the newest batch uses a modified Tele shape.

Loni,
Thank you sooo much for putting the pic of my guitar on your site! Everything I said is true. The Redneck is a blast!
