I need a detective's help. There is guy is on EBAY who has bought seven ricki lap steels in the past two & a half months and my have bought more since EBAY feedback descriptons are omitted prior to Feb 27, 2007. Interestingly enough, out of 22 feedbacks, he's only bought items, never sold anything. He is from Alberta, Canada!!!! (The Northern Conspiracy perhaps). He has also picked up a 2007 Vintage Guitar Price Guide. Should Homeland Security be called in? Is this a threat to the Ricki community??? steve t

I can see buying them if you have a market. Like smuggling them into Europe or Japan and doubling your money. Or, taking them apart and build mint condition guitars and selling the others as less than mint. Who knows? A real collector usually only buys the very best. Not many Ric's on eBay are actually mint by any means.

Or, buy junk and rob the horseshoe for the current craze for bass guitars. The younger generation has caught on to them.

Shocked

Hi Steve. I was just in Beijing for 15 days in May. I wish I had known, maybe we could have hooked up. I build lap steels and was mildly interested in seeing if there was a potential market.I did not make it to the music stores to see if there were any lap steels for sale.

Hi, Gary, Real sorry you did not hook up but hope it works out the next time. Send me an email ahead of time. Were you interested in selling laps here in China or having them built. I've only seen one in a music shop in my 11 years here in Beijing, but China is a big place. They tend to have the music stores clustered in a few areas (one area in Beijing has about 20 stores in a five block strip, for ex.) Never seen a pedal steel here, though when I play out, Chinese guitarists are curious about it. Maybe if more are exposed to guys like Robert Randolph, pedals steels and especially lap steels will be more popular. I'll keep my eyes open when I hit the shops. steve

Some eBay traders will buy under one name and sell under another. That way you can't go back and see what they paid for an item they have up for auction.

Don't know if that is the case here or not.

Well I would be interested in seeing if there was a way to get my Lap Steels in China.I am not surprised that there are few there in the stores. And my guess is that if there are any being built in China, they are for export only and don't make it to local stores. My son lives in Beijing, and thats why we were there.I imagine there would be some hurdles to getting US built lap steels into your country. What are you currently using? I am really upset I did'nt do a search here to see if there was any players in China. We could have met up so easily.Next time !!!

He bought a SW-8 from me, and I must say, he was very very generous with his final, and winning bid. In fact, I was rather shocked! Shocked He seemed pleased with his purchase, and all things considered, an E-bay success story!
