I started out on 6 strings. E-C-A-G-E-C. The standard one more or less. Last January I bought an 8 string Remington with which I am very pleased. I decided to let my 8 string tuning find me. The tuning that found me is the C13 with the .011 G string on top. Is there a particular problem with these little high pitched strings breaking frequently? Just for completeness, the Bb is a.042 8th string (as usual). |

What scale of neck are you using?
I've had as much as a 17 for a high G on a short scale, and never had one snap. |

I generally use .012 for high G.
I've never broken any string playing steel, though I've broken a few playing guitar. |

I've never liked anything higher than an E on an 8 string tuning. |

Actually, I have not got the high G string on the guitar yet. I have been playing this down at A13. But my finding is that it is as Jerry Byrd says (as alot of things are): the keys that are played most often are in all the best places on the neck with C6. So I'm hoping my C13 is going to work out. The thin high G string is my one concern. I do play a short scale guitar. Thank y'all for your continued assistance. |

Would the B-11th tuning be a good secondary tuning on a double neck guitar ?
E---------.014
C#--------.017
A---------.021
F#--------.026W
D#--------.032W
B---------.036W
A---------.042W
B---------.068W |

I can't answer definitively because I still only use one tuning. But my observation is that most C6 and/or A6 players tend to favor a form of E6 or E13 as the second tuning.
But my method for finding my 8 string tuning is also going to be the one I use to find a second tuning (if any) or for that matter my 9, 10 or 12 string tuning. What is going to facilitate the fullfillment of my particular needs? The answer to that question is what I'm going to pursue. And it's not as hard as it sounds. Patience is the key.
Just because your guitar has two necks doesn't mean you have to use them both right now. Maybe someone can suggest some string guages to put on the second neck that will allow you to retune to alot of different tunings. Then you could experiment at will. |

Mr. A was right. The .011 was too light on a short scale guitar. I couldn't find a .012. So for now I'm using a .013. So far so good. _________________ Amor vincit omnia |
