I received this VHS video in the mail. There was no return address, just an Arizona postmark. It has a handwritten label that says "HOME ALONE Smile".

At first I thought it was probably from my good friend Jack, but he said it wasn't. Frankly, I was nervous about playing it. Who knows what people will send anonymously in the mail.

Mrs. Lee finally talked me into putting it in the machine. What followed was a direct-from-the-camera recording of an absolute wizard on a black D-10 Fessenden. Incredible pedal steel artistry, some of it faster than I can even think. Exclamation Exclamation

The tape last about 13 minutes. It was recorded over several days (there are clothing changes) with a stationary camera on the guitar. I can see the guitar, the player's hands, torso and knees, and that's about all. There appears to be two other steel guitars set up in the background.

I'm really curious as to who sent me this tape. All I know is that it isn't my pal Jack. Confused

That was close B0b,there could have been banjo on that tape.Just in case, send it off to forensics. The steel may have been cleverly recorded over the top of banjo, therefore it may contain trace elements of it.Better still, run it over to C.S.I Cloverdale, they'll close the case within 1/2 hour. Wink

b0b a black D-10 Fessy, two other guitars set up in the background, (look and see if that's a Mullen and a Bethel) faster than a greased pig, home alone, Arizona address, it perfectly describes "DANNY SNEED" with the exception of the clothing change from day to day Razz

I have no idea how to post a VHS tape on YouTube. I'm not a video guy at all. I can barely work my own VCR.

b0b, you would need to convert it to some sort of digital format to transfer to your computer. You can possibly bring it to (gulp) Wal-mart and they can burn it to dvd. Next, you would need to find a conversion program. Most people have digital cams with usb to download to their computer as an mpg.

Danny sent me an email. That's him.

Folks, I don't know how many of you have heard this guy play. He's incredible! It's like he's totally at one with the instrument. The music flows directly from his brain directly to the speakers. The guitar isn't an obstacle - it's an extension of his creative mind.

Thanks, Danny, for sending that tape. I really appreciate it.

And that is a Crate Power Block behind him in the pic!

Bob, I am surprised you didn't have all types of investigative people tracking that peice of mail with no return address on it. I wouldn't have even opened it, but I am certain you are happy you did.

I was in Phoenix for an astronomy conference (I'm an astronomer by day - or should I say by night) a couple of years ago, and 2 kind forumites took me to a bar in Cave Creek, AZ,'the Buffalo Saloon' Danny Sneed took the time to chat to us in the break and apart from the amazing speed and chops he is a super melodic player. I was knocked out. Definately one of my all time favourite players. The first 4 bars of the first number showed more knowledge of the instrument than everything I've learned in 26 years playing!

So there ya see little buddy, the word is out on ya now. You can't hide up there at Buffalo Droppings any longer.

Now that more and more folks know about you and your playing, your gonna have to stop being lazy and start playing some of these shows around the country.

Come on folks, get behind me here and let the guy know we need him at these shows, (on stage) that is.
Laughing Very Happy

It would be very easy to take the audio from this tape and convert it to MP3 and put it on one of the free filehosting sites for everyone to hear.

I'd convert the video and put it on YouTube, if given permission. Of course I'd need a loan of the video.
