Bobby has made Joaquin's recording, "Hawaii Forever" available as both a CD and mp3 download. I really like this one a lot and it is quite a departure from any of his earlier playing, but it is some of my favorite Joaquin. Sound quality is just OK, because this was a cassette only release and there is literally no info on it. The songs are all original songs, as far as I know.

I'm pretty sure that this is pedal steel. You can listen to it at the Bandcamp link:

If Joaquin played all of those chords without pedals, I am truly amazed. You be the judge. If anyone has more information about this cassette, please post it. I haven't been able to find anything concrete. The song titles don't show up at HFA, BMI or ASCAP, and the label doesn't seem to exist anywhere either. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. It's definitely pedal steel, but he only uses it in such a way so he can achieve the desired chords. Very subtle and very beautiful use of pedals, IMO. It still maintains a non-pedal aesthetic, if that's possible. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

Mike: I might be completely off base, but I seem to
hear some Alvino Rey inflections in his later playing using pedals. In my early playing years Joaquin and Noel were my idols.

Speaking of Joaquin, I heard an old Tex Williams record called "Castle Of My Dreams" on "The RADIO.com" web sight. Joaquin's playing was relatively simple but it was just beautiful playing with great tone. I could hear his Hawiian roots. |

Bob:
I just downloaded the file in FLAC form, but have not yet listened to it.
About 20 or 25 years ago, Tom Bradshaw lent me his copy of the cassette, which I dubbed to open reel tape and that is what I have been listening to since.
It will be interesting to see if this downloaded copy sounds better.
Did you alter this tape at all----pitch correction? Hiss reduction? I'd be interested in hearing details of how you got it into digital form for purchase.
I'd guess your copy is the very same cassette I copied many years ago as I believe you got yours from Tom. |

It's probably the exact same cassette, Mitch. I have a Tascam CC-222 MK II recorder that I use to copy cassettes to CD. Then I use WaveLab on the computer to get a normalized level. The fidelity isn't great, but I was hesitant to attempt any "restoration". What you hear is exactly what you'd hear listening to the original tape on a high quality cassette deck. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

I have played this collection non stop since buying, it is begining to rank very highly in my collection, what a great all rounder he was, utterly flawless yet fresh and effortless as ever, but for me the big bonus of this collection is the sensational backing, interestingly, no ukes which in fact gives it an air of originanilty, cant thank you enough Bob. |
