Maybe this is one of those "dumb" questions but...it's a question!
I use an old silver face Vibro Champ to practice PSG and quietly drive my family members nuts with every day. Since my attention span and their tolerance level are both fairly short, I generally do about six "sessions" of 1/2 hr every day. Would it be better to just leave my amp "on" all day than to warm it up six times?
It never gets hot sitting for hours unused, just warm...
Dennis
Great lil amp BTW, but I wish I could trade Fender reverb for the vibro..... _________________ "Bucks Owin" |

By constantly powering up and down, the only thing you're risking are the tubes, but those risks are very small. In the interest of energy conservation, I'd just turn it off if I wasn't going to use it for over 1/2 hour. |

You should check out a Roland Micro Cube amp. Perfect for low volume practicing, about 2 watts, nice reverb, and other effects, and costs around $125. I use mine almost every day. I think it would do a better job for you than a Vibro Champ...Jerry |

Most tube amps can be left on all day without any problem - remember, tube stereo equipment was used for years!
But -
Guitar amps also run at higher plate voltages than stereo equipment for the most part...plus a Champ is a single-ended design where the power tube runs quite hot.
All class A amps also tend to run on the hot side.
So while most Fender combos (and Marshalls) can probably be run for extended periods with little worry, Champs probably should not. _________________ No chops, but great tone

Thanks for the input guys....
I'm looking at a 65W 1x12 Crate at Musician's Friend for $149. Maybe give the ol' V-Champ a breather....
Dennis
BTW, at one time I had one of the early orange Roland 60W Cubes as a guitar amp for small gigs. Wish I'd never sold it, it'd be handy to have around now.... _________________ "Bucks Owin" |
