Somebody is really going to have fun with this, but I have two and something had to give. This is a nicely set up Fender 1000 long-scale double neck. The two 8 string necks are tuned B6 on the front (close to Sneaky Pete's setup before he added knee levers in the 70's) and a 3-pedal E9 on the back neck. I'll set up the back neck for any 3-pedal arrangement using single-raise/single lower you want, but you can do it yourself in minutes - that's one great feature of these guitars.
It's been well-played; lots of lacquer checking, what looks like nicotine discoloration (no smell, though), cigarette burns between the tuner pans and bridges, a fair bit of corrosion on many chrome parts, and even a couple chunks of chewing gum stuck on the bottom. However, it's playing very smoothly - a couple of spring changes have been made on the front neck to lighten the touch on the lowers, but I'll include original springs if desired. It stays in tune, and these guitars have zero cabinet drop. There are many ways of overcoming the single raise/lower system, and I and the guys on the Fender steel page can help anyone who wants to do further modifications.
It looks like it had knee levers at one time, but they were gone when I got it. Replaced parts are: a few pedal rods, both pots (with 1965 CTS 1 meg pots), one threaded leg top has been re-welded, a few cable assemblies have been replaced or swapped in from other Fenders and both pickups were rewound by Jerry Wallace.
It has that clear, fat, bell-like Fender tone and good sustain. It's not overly thin and trebly like Fender on some early recordings, which I think may be more amp than guitar related (I own 4 Fender pedal steels and none have that thin sound). The front neck also has hand-made rocking shims for the bridge saddle made by Gary Spaeth - they work like a roller bridge. lessening friction and the fit is so precise there's no rattle or loss of sustain or tone. I have also had this one set up in several different tunings with no string breakage problems at all - made sure the saddles were smooth and every moving part has been treated with Tri-Flow Teflon lube.
As noted, pots are newer '65's - and the switch is clearly pre-1962. It carries serial number 00609, but the serial numbers seem to have no pattern. I'm guessing by the finish, switch and just gut feeling that it was made around 1959-1960, but it could be anywhere from early 50's to early 1962.
The original case is long gone - it's inside a padded Yamaha Keyboard case that fits everything in one container (normally they use two cases). One latch is blown, but it's a usable case - I'd suggest a rolling padded keyboard case as a permanent solution.
It's a nice guitar - not pretty but she has a nice personality . I'll be happy to help with setup and adjustment over the phone within reason as well. I'd really like someone to buy it that will play it, and not just stow it in a collection.
Money from this sale is going towards our daughter's purchase of a horse. It's a very important thing which I can explain to anyone who really needs to know. I can consider partial trades, but I need to cash out most of it.
Price is $900 firm plus shipping/handling. Shipping will likely be in the $50-90 range unless you live locally (local pickup is always welcome, and I'll deliver it within a 30-mile radius) and handling consists of packing materials, which I figure will be about $20 for a new box and other items. I will only charge the actual amounts, no markups or added costs. I will only ship UPS ground, fully insured, adult signature required. Because of the need to get $$ together for our daughter's horse I can't do Paypal this time - this one time I need to reduce the costs as much as I can (if you want to kick in the fees, though, then it's fine).
I have plenty more pictures if needed and will be happy to answer any questions. Thanks for looking!

Man, I'd like to keep it "in the family" and kick in some $$ to the forum, but it's going to be off to eBay soon if it doesn't sell. _________________ No chops, but great tone

Never listed it on eBay, as it looked like a deal was pending here...but it never happened, so I'm giving it another shot on the board.
This is a well set-up guitar guys. Sure would like to see it stay "in the loop". _________________ No chops, but great tone
