I place my RV-3 on top of my Steel King and use the effects loop. I was getting a bad hum and discovered that if I sit it on the left, top side of the amp, I get a bad hum. If I sit it on the right, top side of the amp, no hum. I am just pointing this out as a warning in case anybody is having a hum problem with an RV-3 sitting on top of an amp. I am using a Wall Wart, so it may somehow be AC loop of some sort. I haven't tried it using batteries.

That will happen with almost any AC powered device as the AC power cord is close to the preamp components.

Same thing happened to me with a direct box out of my Evans Se-200 to the board. Cut first half of a CD session no problem with hum, went back to do the second half later and had bad hum. After swapping cables, etc. moved the DI box off the top of the amp and hum dissappeared. Lesson learned...

My Steel King started humming at a club one night and I finally tried moving a power strip with 3 wall warts away from it and it all went away.
