I have two BMI single coil pickups that came out of a '79 D10 BMI when I replaced them with 705's. We would need to check to see how yours are mounted. these have 4 small bolts, 1 near each corner.

I RE-SOLDERED THE CONNECTIONS FROM THE PICKUP, AND I BELIEVE IT SOLVED THE PROBLEM.
I HAVE SOME MORE CHECKING TO DO, BUT UNLESS IT'S AN INTERMITTENT, I'M O.K.
THANX, AND PLEASE CLOSE THIS POST.

Dean, if the pickup was cutting out it would be a solder problem. If you have an original single coil on the BMI, they have a tendency over time to become microphonic. This will cause the pickup to amplify any noise associated with the guitar such as tapping on the guitar or pedal and knee movements. You will be able hear those noises thru your amplifier.
To fix the microphonic pickups, they can be rewound by someone like Jerry Wallace or you can wax them. I have waxed several with very good results. Other than that you can install most any wide mount pickup. Glad to hear that you think you have solved the problem.
