Here is a question for all who play, will continue to play, have played, wish to play, have dreamt they play.... steel guitar....

What is the one tune you (recorded, gigged, fooled around with) that you are most proud of...and what are the reasons you selected this one tune?

Put another way, if you were at the Roman arena and the Emperor gave you one chance to save your life and play a tune before he gave a thumbs up or thumbs down, which tune would you choose? Rolling Eyes Shocked

"God Only Knows". Probably more because of the arrangement than my actual playing on it though...

As for pleasing the Emperor - when I play things never come out the same way twice anyway, so I would just have to start playing something and pray for the best... Very Happy

Seriously, the tune that I get the most compliments on is an E9 arrangement of Sleepwalk, but since this is the non-pedal section, I'll have to get out my dobro and do my best instrumental, which is Mike Auldrich's Spanish Grass.

Quote:

Sleepwalk
- because everyone knows it, and it's a great melody to build on. My arrangement starts simple then becomes harmonically complex.

Spanish Grass - it's a flashy tune with a lot of arpeggios that sound much more difficult then they are. Also there's lots of hammer-ons and pull-offs that sound way cool.

The one that I am most proud of lately is "America The Beautiful" Not because of my playing...I really haven't worked on it much, mostly winging it.I've been playing at a VFW with a friend of mine a few times a month... after I played "America" the first time I looked up from my fretboard and everyone in the place was standing up with their hands over their hearts,Hats off applauding,I was very embarrassed, and proud to play that for these Vets.I had no idea that I was touching so many people.

Would be nice to listen to your best-est tracks, by including a sample or links to where they may be found (as Baz did) so your listeners can, if you'll pardon the awfully mixed metaphor, dream of blue waters and swing on their hammocks while watching Nero's thumb....
