I'm thinking about building myself another 6-string lap steel (I previously built a 6-string that has a Fender Champion-style pickup). Although I'm still new to the steel guitar and just learning about these things, I think the sound I want is like the old Supro/Valco-style string-through pickups.
I see that Jason Lollar offers a "Chicago Steel" pickup based on these. Has anyone tried these? Would anyone have a sound clip you could share? Or would I be better off just finding a good vintage Supro steel? Any sound clips of Supro's I could listen to?
Thanks! |

What a coincidence, I just posted another thread about a new 8-string I just finished building, with a Lollar Chicago Steel in the bridge position, and it does indeed sound very similar to the string through on my Supro. Sorry, I don't have soundfiles, though. |
