Sho-Bud Pro-III Custom, Serial No. 12884
8X5 (one add-on vertical), Vol. Pedal rack mount
Built by Paul Franklin, Jr.
Mechanically sound, great tone

Issues:
The usual Bar bangs, Pick nicks, Finish cracks - but she still looks very good for her age
Several pedal rods need to be crimped better at the top (they will detach when turning the guitar upside down)
"Pro-III Custom" decal IS crooked
One of her hind legs has a big blotch (just above the fetlock) looks like someone took a blow torch to it....(??)
$2,250 and I'll cover shipping to lower 48

I believe it's Sr. that did the building; I think he built that guitar for Jr. Interesting...

Thought that way myself... (that 'Sr.' was the Sho-Bud builder - not 'Jr.') so you're saying that Paul, Sr., put junior's name on her underbelly..?

Now I'm real curious and next time I see Paul - I will ask him. The provenance I was given (orally) was that the guitar was owned by Hal Rugg. I always assumed it was made for Hal by Sho-Bud.

But then... that all came from a guy named Bobbe SAYmore (sp?) ... so, go figure, eh..?

Chas,

In real life, is this green lighter or darker than in the pics?

Darryl,

I'd say the top-down shots are the best indicator of actual color. I took a bunch of photos and will have to apologize for the lack of good lighting in my cabin. Most of the pics posted were taken using a flash. Here's one that was taken without flash.

Hope this helps,

-Chas

Smile
I had a Pro III Custom built by Duane Marrs back in 1975 that was originally a teal blue which turned into that shade of green after a year ot two of smokey bars, I still miss that guitar and was told it was sold to a steel player in Bull Head City Arizona about 1985 or so. I have to look for some old pics of that guitar. I am guessing that your guitar is a former P.F JR guitar. Still a beauty.

Gary,

Yes, I imagine it's gone. Oh well. I snoozed, I loozed.

Speaking of Sack o' Tomato, the first pedal steel I heard was Vance Terry on KFBK in about 1953.
