Is there a direct corelation between the music and the size of the crowd?

LOVE the lyrics!! That drummer would cook on Waltz across Texas. Ray Price would love to have him, Yeah Right. Might fit in with Kenny Cheescake though.

When I want to hear that kind of noise, I go outside and crank up my lawnmower and the weedeater. Flame away.... it just MO

The name of the song is "I can't play my instrument, and I know nothing about music, so I turn up loud and strum simple chords fast and hit the drums hard because I don't understand dynamics, have no ear, and my parents never sent me to take music lessons, and I sound real stupid talking on a microphone". Appearing next week at Garth's basement.

I was referring specifically to the spaz drummer. They are a punk outfit so they're supposed to sound that way.

Sheesh, give the wee punk rockers a break, they're just kids! At least they're trying.

Actually, the name of the song is "Some Kinda Hate"...you wouldn't know it from the way these kids are butchering it, but it's a Misfits gem from their classic "Beware" (edit) record.

The spaz drummer is easily the best part of that video, although the shots of the nearly empty room are pretty good too! Laughing

Last month I ran into one of these no talent (which is what "Punk" is) bass players trying to play country in a country rock band. It was pathetic. Literally the worst bass playing I've ever heard in 40 years of playing, and I told him so. I told him to go take lessons. Head bobbing, no idea of groove, feel, or dynamics. I quit the group and told them I'd never play with them again until they got a bass player who knew how to play. Punk is not music. Its noise generated by young people who are too lazy to take the time to learn music and how to play their instruments. It represents ineptness.

Claymation would be a primitive form of animation compared to a Disney production, but very few would challenge it's artistic merits.

Sounds like what you've got there is a bad bass player. I bet he's no good at playing punk either.

Wide generalizations and sweeping statements are always ALWAYS incorrect. Wink

Just kidding around there...but seriously, everyone is entitled to an opinion.

...It's just that yours is wrong. Laughing

What's that saying about opinions and a$$holes? Everyone's got one, but yours stinks? Something like that... Wink

When it comes to ZBs and super-nice guitar cases, I couldn't agree more with you Kevin, but I just don't think you've got a handle on what punk rock's all about. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I could be wrong about this, but I believe that part of the punk ethic is that you're not supposed to be able to actually play. If you can really play, you're thought of as cheating.

If this is the music of today's youth, I'm glad I'm old.

Hmmm.....punk is just a style of music, and although its got its share of musicians who cant play that well, there are also those who CAN play quite well.
Check out bass player Mike Watt from the Minutemen, and later in fIREHOSE.
A late 70s punk band called "X" are also quite good. The documentary about them "The Unheard Music" is excellent.

Hearing people make assumptions about a particular style of music they are not familiar with is saddening to me. Just like when I hear people put down country music as "hillbilly cr@p"

There is great music in all genres, Open your ears.

The drummer kind of reminds me of Keith Moon. I liked Keith's over the top drumming.

Saying someone doesn't know how to "really play" assumes a definition of what "really playing" is.

Seeing as how that song was first recorded in 1978, I'd say it's not the music of the today's youth, but of the youth of a few weeks ago. Wink

...sheesh, 1978...now I feel old too.

I looove The Misfits. Glen Danzig was like Elvis meets Jim Morrison at CBGB.
All their songs were undeniably catchy. Astro Zombies was my fave back in the day. I used to spike my hair with the mushy stuff from the bottom of the soap dish.

I think some of us see the correlation between punk, country and even hip-hop.
All three started as music of the lower class/working class. Then rich people get a hold of it, homogenize it, and ruin it for everyone!!!
