I am thinking of building my own Fender Dual 6 Professional. I see that Seymour Duncan sells a pickup for the Fender Stringmaster. I could use that, but I think I read here that the Dual Professionals pickups are better that the Stringmasters. Yes, a matter of opinion, but I am thinking that would suit my tastes as well.

Does anyone know where to buy new Dual Professional pickups?

Thanks,

Doug

After posting on the SGF, ...the next place I would go and inquire is Jason Lollar.

Jason dosn't have them up on his site yet ...

These are the modern interpretations of those wonderful pickups ... MRI

I just made 8 MRI magnet assemblies today ...

We made "Boxcars" and "Traps". Even incorportated the stronger bass side magnets into a the same volume of material as found in treble ... to get the "trap" sound in a "boxcar" size unit ...

Neither of those prototypes could "hang" with the MRI though ...

Yolking magnet blocks with steel is not as efficient as incorporating the magnetic material in a uniform "elipse" ...

Jason is man. I really wouldn't think of using anything else for the stuff I build.

They are 4.5" long and 1.25" high.

Their width can vary ... 1.25" is the width I'm using on my Dustpans and on Sierra's ...

Some folks have gotten 1.5"ers ... for that "beefy" look ...

They don't have an integrated bridge (ala "Boxcar" and "Trap" ) ...

The aperture was initially that of a Fender 8 stringer's ... but Jason decided to go with a wider aperture ... 3.125" ... to accomodate wider string spacings (ala Sierra).

As the strings are dead center of the unit ... there needs to be at least 0.625" from the string line down ... for mounting.

Their top is 0.625" above the string line ...

To mount them on my Dual Pro ... some routing would be neccessary.

They are not "drop in" replacements ... as many of Jason's pickups are ...

Hope that helps ...

Jason just built a couple of pickups for me for an early model Stringmaster, the model with the chrome pickup covers. These pickups are smaller and not as hot as the pickups for the plastic covered pickups with the blend control. He did an excellent job and "they fit like they were made for it".
