If you have one of the early Fender Stringmasters and want some better leg sockets to get that good spread at the floor, you need to contact this man:

Don Burrows wingingit@adelphia.net

(440) 992-6129

Don made me five of the sockets with an 18 degree spread for my triple 26" Fender Stringmaster. I'm installing five sockets, so I can use either three or four legs.

They are not cast; but are machined aluminum. The threaded part of the socket is welded to the plate and then machined. You cannot even tell it is welded. The four-hole-pattern for the screws fits the instrument perfectly.

My legs have a 3/4" thread; but of course he can make the sockets to accommodate legs with 1/2" thread also.

The Fender engineers saw the need for a wider stance for their multi-neck guitars, and the single neck; because the later model steel guitars had redesigned leg sockets. The wider stance will make your guitar look better and it will be more stable. I even have 18 degree sockets on my Fender Dual Pro.

Don does a great job with legs and sockets and his prices are very fair.

How is the stability with three legs?
That is an interesting idea. I have a set of Dons Stainless Steel legs and they are perfect.

Great guy too!!!!

Gary, with the 18 degree spread the guitar is very stable, even with three legs. Of course, the advantage of three legs is that they will always sit in the same plane __never a need to re-adjust a leg moving the instrument from one place to another.

I've played the Fender steel guitars with both four and three legs. My preference is with three legs.

Thanks Rick for the kind words. You were great in giving me the dimensions needed to do the leg sockets.
By the way, my web site will be up and running in just a few days.
