Webb Amps vs. Evans

How much might a used Webb amp fetch? Should one consider a new Evans instead? Does anyone know the approximate price of the new Webb amps once they again become available from PSG products?

I've owned both. New Webbs are in the $1800.00 + range. Evans are good also. They are both high end amps.

I've never owned a Webb,but I can speak for the Evans.I just bought an Evans SE 200 and I really like this amp.Plenty of power,with excellent low end and plenty on the high end,crystal clear,and it only weighs 35 lbs.I couldn't beleive they could pack this much into a cabinet and it be so light.I'm satisfied with this one.Check with Bill Stroud if you get ready to buy an Evans,he'll treat you right. Very Happy

Ray Price and buddy emmons hit the air waves for the first time... No really, i love this amp! i have owned both, and to each his own, but for my style of playing the webb is the one... ( No Boxie Sound) like some of the other brands i have tryed...

I've owned and played several models of both brands. Currently I'm a Webb guy, but I've endorsed Evans amps in the recent past.

There are no flies on either brand, though they each have a distinct voice. Evans amps have a definite high-end, clear accentuation IMHO, lovely for E9. The Webb has a punchier, more Fender-like sound... what Brad Sarno described as "a Twin-Reverb on steroids." If I saw either onstage at a steel show, I'd have no problems at all.

As far as used values, it's the same deal... condition, condition, condition. I believe Webbs have a higher resale value than Evans, but they're also higher retail price as well. Late model, lightly used amps usually sell for about 60%-50% of retail, give or take, and depending on original discounting. All of this IMHO based on my trading experience.

I have an Evans Fet-500 LV, it seems to be a good amp and I can assure that it is loud and proud. No weakness in headroom or tone. I haven't ever played on a Web, it may make me a beleiver if I did, I just can't say. All in all they are most likely both good amps, at the time I'm working on a tube pre amp and amp and thats another story.

Well I have had 4 Webb's and 3 Evans FET 500's. They all sounded great but each Webb & each Evans sounded different in their own respects.

After several years of switching back and fourth, I decided the '84 Evans FET 500 with the Eclipse speaker is the perfect sound for me. Price wise, the used Webb's run $700 to $900 and the used Evans run $450 to $550. You can't go wrong with either!

Can't comment on the SE model Evans nor the new Webbs.
