Jerry,

That "sound" isn't gonna come out of no box...but you knew that right? I have the RP100 and I use it when I'm traveling light. There are several ways for a person to set sounds and each has a valid reason for doing so. This is how I do mine;

I don't use the EQ section. Your 500 already has a great EQ section so I'd choose not to "fight" it with more.

I only use the effects and amp simulation (I play guitar too). Set an individual patch for each type and depth of EQ that you want...couple reverbs for ballads (lots of "slap"?) and one with short duration for pickin'. Do the same with your other prefernces like delay, chorus, phase shifter, tremolo, etc. Save them in a logical sequence so that the most used are next to each other for easy access.

As for amp simulation, I really like the "blackface" setting. It sounds real nice on my tele. I only use the amp simulation for guitar and leave it out of the steel. The Session 500 is what you want to simulate anyways, right?

Good luck with it. I think the effects are just fine for live playing and the unit is nice and quiet until you start fooling with too much EQ or overdrive settings.

Thanks Tom for the info. I too play a tele and this unit is awesome for that, and also I plug in a fender lap steel (tuned in G) for some pretty cool electrified
dobro licks. But with the pedal steel I am wanting a good clean sound, but with a little delay in it, and am
trying to figure out if I need any other of the gagetry
and if so how much, I am having trouble getting a good starting point. Not sure on the chorus, phaser, other effects etc. Any suggestions are welcome.
