Just spotted a lap steel on eBay UK which looks very much like a Melobar, and is apparently made by "Select". Anyone come across these before? Any good? Thanks.

That sure looks like a Melobar lap steel to me. The distinctive tail assembly is what makes me think it's a Melobar. If you had a picture of the headstock, that might clear up the owner's confusion.

It's definitely a Melobar, I had one exactly like that for a little while, 'Select' pickup and all.
Didn't impress me much though, sounded one-dimensional to my ears, but other ears may disagree........

The confusion on the seller's end may be the Select pickup, which is the low end (read "crappy") EMG pickup. This is actually a pretty good lap that would be improved noticeably by pickup replacement. What's odd to me is that the seller missed the "melobar guitars" and patent # legend that is clearly visible at the top fret position where it is on all their fingerboards. Perhaps he's nearsighted...
