Does anyone know of any Quads that exist, in the style of the Lyric/Maestro, pictured below (single pick up)? I'd love to have one, but since I've never run across one, maybe someone has a pic of one that could be posted?
I like this particular era of Magnatone...I've run across double necks and triples, but never a single 8 or Quad 8. There's a picture of an S-8 on Cord's CD "History of Hawaiian Steel Guitar". But, I've never seen a quad.
Here's a pic of my triple neck. I like this guitar, but can't play it right now due to a bad short somewhere in the electrical wiring. I'm going to get someone to totally re-wire it...take out both of those complicated 3 way neck selector switches, and replace it with a simpler system of 4 on/off switches.
Maestro
I sure would love to see a quad! |

No, Jeff, but if it did exist, I couldn't carry it because it would be too heavy. Are you going into body building by way of steel guitars?
I love the Magnatones of the 1950's. I have a D-8 Lyric as you may know. I love it.

One MAGNATONE 4 neck might still exist somewhere as I sold mine in the early fifties. I still have a pic of me playing it in a western swing band. But as Don mentioned, it was a very heavy bruit outside the case and in the case it would be impossible for me to haul it around today. Great sound. Each neck had individual controls which was not really a bright idea. I think MAGNATONE took the short-cut by joining 4 single necks together at the time. Just as a conversation piece, I wish I had hung on to the beast. But money was tight in those days. |

Jeff...sorry, I erred. I really thought I had a pic of that 4 neck MAGNATONE, however upon checking through a pile of old photos to e-mail it to you, I discovered the pic was actually of me playing my brand new Fender Custom T-3 which I purchased as a result of the Magnatone sale. Dammit, I don't have one pic of that Magnatone ! |
