Hi,

Can anyone provide me with a link/s to where I can buy a lap steel guitar nut?

That is a 6 string version.

Thanks,

Martin

Stewart MacDonald sells tall, bone nut blanks for steel. They are at stewmac.com

Most clasical guitar pre cut nuts work well for steel.
I have some in stock but shipping is more that the price of the nut. I could put it in a envalop and mail it like a letter.

I can't be bought, but I'm sure there are others on this forum that have a price. Smile

Hi C. Brattain,

Thanks for the offer, if a classical nut works then I can get one from the uk.

The problem appears to be that most nuts seem to be to short for a steel.

If I am making it correctly then the strings on a lap are parallel not tapered as in a standard guitar making the nut too short?

Martin,
I just measured the string spacing on my steels and the only one with parallel spacing is the eight string Cougar. The six string lap steels have closer string spacing at the nut.

Hi,

Ahh,right, that's where I am going wrong.8-((

The construction book that I have shows marking of the nut from the bridge spacing...

I have a normal sized nut or I can get a classical guitar nut with a wider width at 51mm.

That should do it.

Thanks for the help.

On my Melobar the distance between the 1st and 6th string is 45mm at the nut and 53mm at the bridge.

Hi,

Mine is 53mm between 1st and 6th string so hopefully a 51mm nut would be ok.
