I need some non-PSG advice on Traynor amps. I am thinking about their YCV20WR. It is a 15 watt tubed amp with one 12" speaker. Do any of you have any experience with it or any other Traynor's?
Thanks! |

Hello Mike. I have a Traynor YCV40. Here in Canada, I've never heard a bad word about Traynor amps, and they are very popular. They're well built, and seem to stand up in sound and quality to any other. And they're guarantee I believe is the best in business. I have a Fender Champ 30 watt, a Fender 15 watt, a 1960 National and a couple more. The National is a toobie job also, and I like the warmer sound of tubes and especially the YCV40. I'm 68, and all amps in my day were toobie jobs!!!! Geo |

Mike: I have much more experience with the YCV40 than the 20, but in general I think the YVC series are very fine amps at a reasonable price. As George says, Traynors have an excellent reputation for reliability, and the one thing you can be sure of with any and all Traynors is they're LOUD! You don't say what sort of instrument you're planning to use the amp with. As a steel amp I wouldn't recommend the Traynor too highly, at least not based on my experience with the YCV40. That I've tried with several steels and found the high end rather brittle, although I suspect a speaker substitution would make a big difference.
As a guitar amp, though, it's another matter. I often play with a friend who uses a YCV40 with his Yanuziello semi-acoustic and a couple of other electrics and in all cases the Traynor complements them beautifully on any style of music. George may have a different perspective on the Traynors' value as steel amps. |

Hi Mike. I have a Traynor Custom valve 20 & I have nothing but praise for this puupy! I have a Marshall Valvestate 2000/AVT 275,with a tube driven preamp/solid state amp which i really like, but is a pain in the butt to haul around. I bought the traynor for ease of going out to jam with my buddies & am very happy I did!I don't use the Marshall much any more, with all due respect Jim, over the pond!! You can go from a nice crisp clean,to a nice bluesy overdrve on the clean channel. Then, jump over to the lead/overdrive channel for a little more bite.It also has balls when it comes to volume!!If you can easily grab one,GO FOR IT!! Hey ya'll
Sorry to be so long in posting back to you. I was out of town for a mother's day trip.
Ian, I am playing a Remington S8 as well as a Harmony 6 string. I hope to get other laps as well.
George, I like the tube sound as well. I bought a '59 Tweede copy that I really like. I want an amp with a 12" speaker so I can have a bit larger sound.
Thanks for your reply's.
Mike
