I've been coming to this forum for info for quite some time now. But I've just joined cause now and then there are questions I want to ask that I can't find anyone else asking. You'll soon find out why... I've also joined here so I can stop bugging the hell out of my good friend Mike Perlowin who has more important things to do.

I'm not really a steel player, perhaps. I have owned a lap steel, I do play slide guitar now and then but my main instrument is... an electric balalajka. A solidbody balalajka that was made for me by a violin maker in Sweden (which is where I live). Anyway, on this instrument I do play quite a lot of slide.

Lately I've been trying more and more to emulate the sound of a pedal steel on this instrument. Cause it's one sound I like to make. I use an Ernie Ball volume pedal (getting a Goodrich soon to see if that's any better for me). I end up trying to play the cliché sounds of the pedal steel of course, at least for the back-up stuff I try to do.

For melody playing I'm using the balalajka version of Robert Johnson's hybrid technique with some slid notes and some fretted notes. I'm mostly interested in jazz and blues but I like all kinds of good music.

Welcome to the Forum, Terje. This is the place!

I played your soundclips on your website, very cool. I sure never knew a balalajka could sound like that. It's been a long time since I got to play some blues with a good blues band, your clips make me want to play some blues.

Don't hesitate to ask anything you can imagine here, but don't forget to use the search function too, many times there is a lot of information already there.

Nice to meet you, see you later on the Forum.

Hej Uffe! Jo, elbalalajka. Lite sjukt faktiskt men så blev det.

So, there are a few Swedish steel players out there. We need to form a union!

Welcome aboard Terje!

So you're the friend Mike P. claims to have.

Do you know there's a Balalajka Forum ?

Sorry, but this one really belongs in the Music forum rather than No Peddlers. I'm moving it over there for further discussion.
