Hey Rick,
How are the tuners going to be setup on this thing?
BTW, looks like a 'heap 'o tone', just waiting to happen.

Terry's gonna have to come in here and "spill the beans" on all the unique features he has planned.

I'm shipping it to him in the mornin' ... he's doin' everything from this point on.

We got a "barter" thing goin' ... he makes the "Mothers" ... and I pour him whatever "Kids" he wants ...

I've asked Rick to post some pictures of the wood version of this Shorty design I'm currently working on. I'm building two wood ones and now it looks like I have an aluminum one to put togther. I stuck a hunk of wood in for a nut just to show how it works. The finished nut will be polished aluminum. I wanted the guitar to be as short as possible for air travel purposes. From the pics you can see that the strings go over the nut and then immediately down through the neck and exit underneath. From here they go back to the tuners. It seems to work fine. No evidence of string binding. Also you will notice a couple of other details. The cove around the top of the guitar allows the tuning buttons to travel freely. The tuners are far enough below the strings that they won't interfere with any left hand bar movements. The aluminum pan version will be the same tuning set up.

Sounds like a great idea, Terry. I'm looking for something similar..short and light weight for travel. Keep us posted with some pics on its progress!

That Terry is a smart feller.
I played his first model last fall and it was like a dream. Good work Gatre.

Those tuners would totally be in my left hand's way, both treble and bass sides.

Nice work on the casting, though, Rick. Looks like you really know your onions.

It kind of reminds me of either a sarod or a sitar.

I hope I'm wrong but I think you're going to have some tuning difficulties running the string through those ferrules. That's a lot of angle and friction, particularly on the wounds.
I figure you'll bevel them some but you might look into a 'roller' or some sort instead.
Otherwise it looks great!
