Not really. It gets close to the point.
Yes, it does cut out the dancing around when an item like this starts at unrealistic low price.
Figure $600.00 per neck as current market value. I believe that's a realistic price. Of course I'd like to pay less, and I have, but, that was then. |

...and now-- I know, I know-- you're dying to sell your quad at firesale prices to a nice young Canadian boy.
I hear it all the time.
Hey, I just happen to know someone who could help you out with that...

It says the bridge covers are there. Why wouldn't you show them in one of the pics? Was it originally blonde?

Here is another one, 24.5" scale also.

Two quads on E-bay in the same week! Not your average occurence. I think that if these were long scales they would be underpriced, but seeing how they are mid's, I think they are priced relatively fair for the market, with maybe the "Buy it now" a little high on the one. After all, how many quads did Leo make? And you know, nothing sounds as sweet as a Stringmaster~!
Cheers,

Perspective (IMHO): $1,800 today is about $180 in 1969 money which was about 175% of mid-'50's money.
The rediscovery of non-pedal Steel has it's price as that market increases and supply declines.
The present decrepid economy has sucked the blood out of the best economy we've ever had in the late 1990's. The present economy is fraught with inflated bubbles based much on pure "blind" faith and empirical propping / shoring lumber ...with not much to fall back on when/if shoring timber breaks and/or when the bubbles deflate, since the blood is critically low.
When I buy an instrument for re-sell today, I ask myself if I could make 30% profit after the costs of acquisition (shipping in, cleaning up, unforeseen repair, overhead, advertising, motion and shipping out ...etc.). Buying instruments for myself I ask myself if over the next 5 years I should need to liquidate, could I stand the bubble popping and the market price dropping to half of market value today.
Aloha,
DT~

Most of the time they are removed because they vibrate. Mine were removed by the previous owner and possibly used as an ash tray because now they are GONE!

In my case, with my "67" Tele, I keep the big bridge cover in the case, which I never open.
In another case, I keep the D8 & D6 bridge covers right on the guitars, I don't dare take "em" off with my memory....Can't remember where I put the case....
One cover on the "55" D8 rattles ever so slightly. But with the rock band I jam with, you couldn't hear a Fire Engine go by to a 14 bell alarm!!! Good thing about it though, it bothers the big cat.
Hmmm, $1800 plus big one's for 55 lbs of steel...that a lotta stash for that weight...probably rattles too..TX

Well, at least it'll be staying in the USA . .
That's gotta be the highest price ever paid for a Stringmaster![This message was edited by Rick Alexander on 06 May 2005 at 07:04 PM.] |

Hi Rick. Yeh, it's staying in the USA alright. I'm in Denver; I bought it for my Dad, who lives in Tulsa, so it's headed for the Sooner state. I'm a steel player, and my dad's a steel player. He got me started many years ago, and he's been wanting a quad neck for some time. So it will remain here, be well taken care of, and played like it should. |

Gary, that's great! You deserve an award - so here it is:
And Doug Beaumier tells me that there was a pristine blonde Quad that went for 5K on eBay 5 years ago. He showed me some pics too, and it looked exactly like it did back in 1953 when it was brand new - breathtaking . .
Jody Carver told me that there were about 1600 Quads made and he estimates that approximately 300 of them are still intact.
So a Quad is a real treasure . . |

Rick, I don't know if I'm speaking of the same quad, but if it is the same one that was sold on ebay and belonged to John Tipka, it went for 4k. |
