That was wonderful. I don't think I have ever enjoyed a video more.
Thanks for posting this.
A MUST SAVE!
Did you know this was the last album that Joe recorded before he passed away? |

That's John Pisano on rhythm guitar. Pisano is one of the all-time great rhythm guitarists; very unassuming but a hell of a musician. He's on a lot of Joe's records including the classic, "For Django" and was also a memeber of the studio band for all the Tiajuana Brass hits. I also saw recently him way in the background of the orchestra Dianna Krall's Live in Paris/Look of Love DVD. |

Just what I needed. Lovely playing!
Next Tuesday I start a series of jazz gigs.
I basically needed to get the fingers back to jazz level,
and this was perfect to play along with. Till 1:30AM
Awesome melodic invention and harmonization.
A bit of disconnect between the ads and the music content.
But no matter, I play that too, so no problem. _________________ DLD, Chili farmer. Plus bananas and papaya too.

A few years ago at Birdland, John Pisano headed "Guitar Night" with Jimmy Bruno, Jack Wilkens, Ron Afif, Gino Bertocini, Tony DeRosario, & Steve Herberman......
John Pisano is no slouch on lead either.....George Benson was in the audience.....and although he wouldn't get up to play....he only wanted to hear Jimmy Bruno......what a classic night..... |

Andy,
I'm glad you posted this video. Otherwise, I would not have known these two great guitar players put this one of a kind project together.
It was educational to listen to each of them talk as well as play their instruments.
Thank you! |

As good as Roy did, (playing the melody,) IMO I thought he was way out of his league. Flame away ... |

Maybe out of his league,
BUT Joe clearly enjoyed it,
and Joe suggested doing the Hank tunes.
Which meant Roy would get the majority
of melody heads to play.
Almost EVERYBODY is out of Joe Pass's league.
That doesn't mean he doesn't like to play
at a more relaxed level than his strongest chops allow.
Even someone of Roy's level likes to be challenged
to play even better than he normally has too. _________________ DLD, Chili farmer. Plus bananas and papaya too.

Off topic but, interestingly, I seem to remember a GP interview years ago where Joe was recommending woodshedding fiddle tunes as a practice routine. I guess he had gotten exposure to the fiddle in his early years in the Gerald Wilson Big Band. _________________ Bill Cunningham

Roy was right there with Joe IMHO. and I liked his tone better... Plus I'd like to see Joe rip bluegrass or country like Roy... Two monster musicians showing the rest of us hack artists the way it SHOULD be done.. They are both world class... very nice music... bob |

I saw Roy & Joe on TV a while ago, and the show was great. Roy seemed to be holding how own with Joe Pass, and Joe was Joe--effortless, fluid, and MUSICAL. Their CD is out of print, I think. I'd like to get one. |

I meant "holding HIS own" of course. Mind and fingers do not always work together. |
