Has anyone ever seen a doubleneck with a six and eight string neck? Sure, you could only put six strings on one of the necks on a double eight, but I was curious. |

Yes, there have been a couple like that on eBay. More common would be the 8 / 7 configuration - some Gibson Console Grandes were made like that, and I have a Regal 8 / 7.
Jerry Byrd had a custom made 8 /7 Excel. |

I own a very bizarre Guyatone 6/8 lap steel that I bought at a shop across the street from the Hollywood Guitar Center store nearly 20 years ago for $75. It's mainly a piece of home decor and features a (factory) metallic blue paint job and some of the worst luthiery I've ever seen. |

There is also another brand. I have the electronic copies of the catalogs. Due to some forum members, I can't offer any info on these forums, however. They are out there, though. |

Rather than just putting 6 strings on an 8 string neck, I carved a nut with spacing like a dobro and put it on. Nicer left hand spacing although a bit tight for right hand. If you're going to do this, make sure the strings don't wander too far from the pick-up poles or adjust height accordingly.

Before Jerry Byrd had an 8/7 EXCEL, he owned at least (1)-8/7 Custom~Made Sho–Bud(s). The one he played for many years is presently the property of Dewitt ‘Scotty’ Scott. (As of last Fall, as well as his Fender Twin~Reverb Amplifier)
