I've have seen their rediculous prices over and over again, but this one has to be a topper. Why would they continuously waste money with these listings? Maybe they are banking on one sucker sale which would make it all worth while. This one has been listed at that price 3, 4 or perhaps even 5 times before. It's absolutely ridiculous, but at least it's good to see nobody's buying it......
I think I paid about $300 for an identical one a year ago..

that they were asking $375 for and didn't sell.
It sure seems that have some wierd strategy... if you can't sell it for $375, must be cuz it's priced too low, advertise it again and ask about $1795 for it.
I'm beginning to think the post in the other thread about some kind of racket may be onto something. Maybe they use the auctions for some kind of legal record for writing-off instruments they "can't sell", and they use the auctions to establish the value of the instrument. Yeah, that's absurd. They keep relisting it, they probably get to write off the eBay fees when it doesn't sell. You're right Steinar - it's worth about $300, maybe 350 or 400 tops. A similar guitar went for $355 a few ays ago.
I emailed them also, on more than one occasion. They replied saying that "experts" had determined the value and that if I didn't like it - don't bid. I told them I wouldn't, and neither would anyone else. So far nobody has . .
Whatever they're up to - it's for sure they are not to be trusted. |

Besides inventory depreciation write offs and such; I think what we are seeing is a professional assessment of the market potential and the large number of GC stores trying to push their findings as hard as possible. After all, GC can probably do that better than any other entity on the planet, ...especially coupled with the effects ebay has upon the market "sense" of value. The escalated prices of other certain Steels on ebay over the last 6 months or so seem add some credence to my assumptions.

With over 100 stores staffed by some reasonably astute guitarists, I doubt that whatever GC/IE's ebay is doing is dilusional to them ...although potentially dilusional to customers / market that don't know any better. ...IMHO.
