My new Carter S-12U. I got it last Thursday, wow. 2 years new and beautiful. I had 3 days with it before I was back on the road. I hope I can learn well enough to do it justice. Thank you Bob T.

Looks like a George L's to me, Andy.......great choice for a Carter! My old '97 Carter D-10, with the E-66 on the E9, had a great sound.

Yep, George L's. I'm playing it thru my Ampeg B5R with a BXT-115 (1 -15" and a horn) and a 2-10 cabinet. At some point I'll have to some kind of reverb for it. I wish I was home Laughing

Nice guitar Michael. I hope you like yours as well as I like mine. It's a real workhorse. I've had it for 7 years and IMHO, they can't be beat.

Thank you Larry, what a difference from my old kit steel.

Jon, knowing my track record with guitars, I will have for the rest of my life (I don't sell anything).

My goal is to be on stage in 6 months or less. I know I won't won't be very good, but you can only get good by playing and playing with other people.

Hi Michael, Enjoy your new guitar, exactly the same model and color as mine. Got mine in 2003. Only difference mine has a TT pick-up. Done hundreds of gigs with her since. One real dependable guitar Smile

I have the same guitar, color and all.

The magic is when you are arranging tunes and begin to use the changes of the "E9th" and "B6th" interchangeably and seamlessly without thinking about it and the guitar just becomes one big tuning in your mind.

I like doing a country tune the traditional E9th way for part of the tune and then jazzing the rest of it up with some of the extended chords available on the SU-12, especially in the bass range - it really surprises the listener due to the seamless way this instrument allows such musical approaches.

Or just play a tune "Nashville" style all the way through and then end with a big, fat arpeggiated major 9th chord --- it gets their attention!

The 12 strings also permit you to duplicate any of those Hawaiian steel tunings so useful on non-pedal steel - full A6th, E7, C#m7, and even a good chunk of B11th (A&B pedals with RKR). Of course, B6th is there too.

Good luck with your new machine. Take it easy - there's a lot of stuff to learn on this monster.

Hi Frank, my sentiments exactly. It's just one big tuning, and like yourself I too play E9th on the first part of a Country song, then jazz it up further into the tune. I never think of what "Mode" I'm wanting to play in, I just "flow" within that great "combined" tuning.....so much on there!! Smile

Micky, Frank,

Thank you. It is such a great guitar.

I was asked last week if I wanted to play bass in band doing 40's, blues, jazz and big band and I said yes, but I also suggested when I'm ready, to play to pedal steel and they're good with that. What a great incentive to learn and to grow.

I have the Newman E9/B6 video and book, WOW. I just wish work didn’t get in the way of my practicing.
