You don't need the Hilton sustain unit if you already use the Hilton volume pedal, you're just adding more gain.
You might get the tone you're looking for by fiddling with the volume and tone knobs on the Hilton volume pedal, I found that turning the volume down, so that the pedal was not amplifying the signal from the pickup, gave me the best tone. |

It'll make you wonder how you played without one. Like the "American Express" commercial. I won't leave home without mine.
It's intended to go right after your pickup in the line up.

David, I've had a black box for about 2 months and I love it . My set up is a JCH guitar into a Hilton sustain box -black box and Goodrich volume pedal into either a PV nashville 112 or my studio rack, a Roland GP 100 ans Lexicon MX200 were I go direct and man what a difference. It adds sweetness to the tone and everybody hears it.

The Sarno " Black Box" is well worth the money . It gives you a more lush tone and a bigger sound. Once you have used one you will not play without it . It gives you a sound that is more like a tube amp because it actually has a tube in it . It will work with any amp or volume pedal. One of the best products that has come along in a long time. What will it do for you? Tone. Tone that you will love.
I use mine on my Walker Stereo Steel, which is a powerful solid state rig. I run straight from the Guitar to SGBB, then to my L120, and out to the WSS.
I played out last week and left it at home. I noticed the difference right away. My 4 other band mates don't ever notice anything! Anyway don't leave home without it.
I sometimes use it with a high-end all tube amp. The difference is there but very subtle. Same setup.

Since the pickup is plugged hard wire to the BB input,
the interaction between fingers/strings/tube is direct.
It then adds a very pleasant harmonic series to your sound.
You may then adjust the volume without any
change in this harmonic series.
Since the pedal is after the BB tube stage.
This harmonic series, and the way you can manipulate
that with touch, is also very, very nice into your distortion box of choice.
More like a natural amp being overdriven without any pedals. _________________ DLD, Chili farmer. Plus bananas and papaya too.

I'm sure Brad will correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to recall him telling me that the BB would not be needed if you have a Hilton volume pedal. I'm not sure why, since they seem to do somewhat different things, but perhaps there's some overlap in the circuitry? Brad, please set me straight.
Thanks. |

The only combo better than a BB and a Hilton,
is a Revelation and a Hilton.
Plug either into ANYTHING and it will sound better. _________________ DLD, Chili farmer. Plus bananas and papaya too.

Gee, I guess I must have been out to lunch (not too surprising); sorry if I misled anyone but glad my error has been corrected.

James, I agree.
I have everything he has recorded as far as I know.
But I imagine his sound with one too.
I also think he would like it.
