Jim,
I have seen a 9 string Sho-Bud, so it is a good guess that Marlen made the same transition from 8 to 9 to 10 to whatever you wanted. Mr. Stadler[sp]was a super nice gentleman that built a very nice guitar. The older/first ones were beautifull laquer body guitars. The S12 that I have has an all pull Marlen changer, and other parts that were leftovers from an SD10 conversion, plays very good, stays in tune.

I have a early 90's SD10. can tell you that these are definately some of the most beutiful guitars ever made. I've owned two. The first was an early 60's D10 with pull release changer. Beutiful guitar and great tone but the changer was crude. Now the SD10 I play now is all pull and will never leave my side. It is all natural aged maple with black pad and fretboard. If you could imagine waving a magic wand at a 52RI Telecaster and turning it into a steel guitar then you would have my Marlen. The tone is awesome as well.
I had the honor of meeting Mr Stadler at his shop. He was a very nice man indeed and I saw all of his guitars. Absolutely beutiful. I sincerely wish that someone could have picked up making Marlens after he passed away. |
