A friend wants to buy a new tuner , 'cause he's dropped the Korg, one too many times, and has asked me to ask on here about what you guys recommend.
He had the Korg for ages and my Seiko ST757 has been giving excellent service for years. Consequently we don't know what is currently being bought by steel players.
He prefers a Hertz display rather than cents but I'm sure that is not set in stone!!
thanks in advance.

Hi
The Peterson brand has been the standard for a long, long time. Since the advent of virtual digital displays, these tuners are smaller and affordable.
I personally like the V-SAM model. Many like the VSII.
The newest is called StroboFlip.
There is a software version for your PC! |

Ron,
thanks for the input. The Petersons are reasonably expensive ... ? .. no?
What reliable but less expensive ones are around?

Boss T-12 or Boss T-15. I have the T-12. It is % but works well and about 70.00. You can find it cheaper at some of the online stores. I also have fender rack mount for reference while playing. It has helped me ensure I am dead on the frets. As a new player I have not gotten my ear trained good enough yet. Good luck in your search. _________________ ShowPro SD10, Mullens RP, Bose S1 Pro, GK MB200, MB500, Bugera T50 Tube amp with SlidgeRig, TC HOF reverb effect. |

I have a Peterson Strobo Flip Tuner that you can tune with cents or with Hz and you can go from tempered tuning to sweetend as well. Cost about $240.00 |

thanks John and Ricky,
I'm sure the Boss is closer to the desired price range ... so what else is out there that you've found to be satisfactory? ... or maybe more to the point ... what should he stay away from!!?

Ricky the StroboFlip can be had at places like Musician's Friend for slightly below $200; maybe that's still a stretch, but I went from a meter hertz (Korg) tuner to the S'Flip and couldn't be more pleased. |

thanks Bob,
that's a 20% cut ... not to be ignored!
... still think $70 is preferable to $200.
... any other recommendations?
thanks Larry for the e-mail. will get back to you after the weekend. |

I've been using a Korg CA-30 for several years now. At $19.99 you can buy several. It's not fancy and isn't lighted, but I can tune my guitar with it.

Lee,
thank you ... a man after my own budget!!!
Paddy,
thank you too,
the StroboFlip seems to get the vote as the quality choice ... he'll have to choose between the extremes!!

I have the TU-12H I believe.
It's good & I got it used for around $30...not to bad of a deal I think.
With all that said, I think I'm going to purchase the Peterson Strobo-Flip or the V-Sam. I got to money around with one & see one in use & it is awesome. It pretty much insures perfect tuning and they are pretty easy to use...I love the digital visual readout...very easy to understand.
I really want to get one but, much like you, I hate to spend that kinda cash on a tuner. However, I think I'm going to have to breakdown & buy one... maybe I can sell my TU-12H to cover some of the cost. |

I bought a used Peterson VS II here on the forum with leg mount and wall wart used for $140. I honestly do not know how I once lived with out it. In fact, the band I work with has been using it as well, I have to argue for it back everynight!
Peterson VS II or Strobo Flip either one, you won't be disappointed.

Jim got a heckuva deal on that Peterson. He must've just barely beat me to it. I saw it for sale, read up on them really fast & when to post saying that I would take it & saw the message saying it was sold.
Darn!!! |

thanks to all for your input.
I'm sure he'll find this useful.
I'll print it out, pass it on, and let him make all the decisions.

I've got to agree with Jim here guys. I recently bought a Peterson from a forum member. What a difference it makes. No kidding, the temperment tunings in it are right on. My guitars, bass, and steel have never sounded better. I had a great tuner before but this peterson is going to retire it and all the others I've got. I got a great deal on mine also. |

I have used a WT 10 Korg for several years now and had really liked it and just recently bought a new Korg model GT 120 and was wondering if the Jeff Newman tuning chart that he shows on his website works ok with that tuner and someone who may own one give me some input on that tuner. Jim |
