Are these steel guitars made of one solid casting of aluminum? Also what is the secret of their tone?

Yes, they are made of one piece of cast aluminum.
I can't tell about the ShuBud or Excell Frypan, but as far as the Richenbacher... the secret is that there is no secret (anymore)... the explanation is, that it's made of one piece of cast aluminum and it's got a good pick-up.
