I received my True Tone pick up for my MSA Legend yesterday. As good as the guitar sounded with the Geo-L humbucker, the True Tone has that slight shimmer of the overtones of each note that was missing and boy do harmonic's just jump off the strings now! I'll carry the Geo-L in my gear box, but I don't see myself using it unless "electronic" circumstances make the True Tone to noisy to deal with.

I agree with you Jim, I tend to keep the Truetones on the E9th neck of my Legend and Millenium both. The harmonics is the main reason, they really sparkle. I also have Bill Lawrence XR16's and George L's TW pickups that sound good, but the Truetone has a slight edge that the others don't have. I'm going to try a Tonaligner one of these days, I've heard really good things about them. _________________ Darvin Willhoite
MSA Millennium, Legend, and Studio Pro, Reese's restored Universal Direction guitar, a restored MSA Classic SS, several amps, new and old, and a Kemper Powerhead that I am really liking. Also a Zum D10, a Mullen RP, and a restored Rose S10, named the "Blue Bird". Also, I have acquired and restored the plexiglass D10 MSA Classic that was built as a demo in the early '70s. I also have a '74 lacquer P/P, with wood necks, and a showroom condition Sho-Bud Super Pro. |

I'm looking forward to hearing Jay Dee's new MSA at Perl-Jam next month, he's got the tone-aligners dialed in pretty good from what I read about his set at the Texas show.

"Perl-Jam" is the LA Jam that is organized by Mike Perlowin and will take place April 21st & 22nd.
This years jam will be the first time it has been a 2 day event and each days 10 "available" playing spots had to be "signed up" for in advance. You can search event's and announcements for more details. I'll be playing on Sunday.

Jim, I also seem to always have the True Tones in both necks of my Legend. I tried it out in St. Louis with all the pickups that they had available at the MSA room, and decided on the Truetones. They accidentally shipped my guitar with the stock humbuckers so when they shipped me the others to exchange, I went back and forth again trying them, I decided to buy them all. The more familiar I got with my new guitar, the more I prefer the Truetones. When I get to thinking that I should give the others a try again, it only lasts for about 30 minutes, and I put the Truetones in again. I truly am pleased with the sound of my Legend, and others have commented on it as well. This is the Legend that Jay Dee played on stage in St. Louis. No, it doesn't sound anywhere as great with me playing it as it did that day, but it sure makes what I play sound good. |

You can't beat True Tones, or the man that stands behind them. I've sent him special orders for the ones in my Bud, and he sent them before he got my money.
Best pickup man since my friend Danny Shields was alive and working his magic.
No Doubt.

I have a MSA Legend S-12 arriving shortly. I am told that to acquire the same sound of a 17.5K 10 string pickup, a 12 string pickup has to be wound higher around 19.K -19.5 If this is true, a George L 10 -1, 12 string pickup which is wound to 19.5 should sound brighter than the 10-1, 10 string pickup which is also wound to 19.5 according to their web site. I don't understand what George L is doing. The list their 10 string E-66 at 17.5 and their 12 string E-66 at 19.5, but yet they list their 10-1, 10 and 12 string the same. Has anyone checked their 12 string 10-1, I am curious to know what reading you get.. |
